A Comprehensive Review of China's Steel Enterprises in 2025
In 2024, the global crude steel output will be 1.88 billion tons, and China will have 1.005 billion tons, accounting for 53.3%. There are more than 5,000 iron and steel enterprises in China, including more than 600 enterprises with iron-making and steel-making capacity, which can be divided into three categories: central enterprises, local state-owned enterprises and private enterprises, with state-owned enterprises accounting for about 41% of steel production capacity and private enterprises accounting for about 59% of steel production capacity.
(1) Central enterprises. The category of central enterprises refers to large central enterprises whose controlling shareholders or actual controllers are directly managed by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, including:
Baowu (including Baoshan Iron and Steel, Zhongnan Iron and Steel, Masteel Holdings, Taiyuan Iron and Steel, Xinjiang Bayi Iron and Steel, Echeng Iron and Steel, Chongqing Iron and Steel, Zhanjiang Iron and Steel, Meishan Iron and Steel, Xinyu Iron and Steel, Kunming Iron and Steel, Shandong Iron and Steel Rizhao Iron and Steel, etc.),
Anben system (including Anshan Iron and Steel, Angang Bayuquan, Pangang Group, Benxi Iron and Steel, Benxi Iron and Steel Beiying, Chaoyang Iron and Steel, etc.),
CITIC (including Jiangyin Xingcheng Special Steel, Daye Special Steel, Qingdao Special Steel, Tianjin Steel Pipe, Jingjiang Special Steel, Nanjing Iron and Steel, etc.), Xinxing Cast Pipe, Henan Zhongyuan Special Steel, etc.
(2) Local state-owned assets. Local state-owned enterprises refer to enterprises whose controlling shareholders or actual controllers are directly managed by the local State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, including:
Shougang series (including Shougang Jingtang, Shougang Qiangang, Shougang Changgang, Shougang Shuigang, Shougang Tonggang, Shougang Guigang, Shougang Yigang, etc.);
HBIS (including HBIS Tangsteel, Tangshan Medium and Heavy Plate, HBIS Xuangang, HBIS Chenggang, HBIS Hangang, HBIS Wugang, HBIS Stone Steel, HBIS Saigang, etc.);
Shandong Iron and Steel (including Jinan Iron and Steel, Shandong Iron and Steel Rizhao, Laishan Iron and Steel, Yantai Iron and Steel, etc.);
Valin series (including Xianggang Iron and Steel, Lianyuan Iron and Steel, Henggang Iron and Steel, Yangchun New Iron and Steel, etc.);
Three steel series (including Sanming headquarters, Quanzhou Minguang, Luoyuan Minguang, etc.);
Shaanxi Iron and Steel (including Shaanxi Longmen Iron and Steel, Hanshan Iron and Steel, Hanshan Iron and Steel, etc.); In addition, Baotou Iron and Steel, Jiugang, Liugang, Angang, Hangzhou Iron and Steel are all large local state-owned iron and steel enterprises, and they also have more than one steel base.
(3) Private enterprises. It mainly refers to iron and steel enterprises dominated by private enterprises. Include:
