New Graphcoa graphite plant opens to power Brazil's energy transition
With Appian's strategic support, Graphcoa is accelerating its graphite footprint in the Itagimirim region of Bahia State in southern Brazil, with plans to invest more than R$2 billion by 2028, contributing to a low-carbon transition in the global energy mix.
In December 2024, Graphcoa's first integrated graphite production site, which combines mining and beneficiation with complete beneficiation and finishing facilities, is expected to complete its capacity ramp-up in eight months and reach its design capacity of 5,500 tons of graphite concentrate per year in August 2025.
At the same time, the Company is simultaneously advancing feasibility studies for two new production lines, which are expected to be completed by the end of 2025, at which time Graphcoa's total production capacity is expected to increase to 65,500 tons per year.
